IDEA Slam a Success

25 Jan 2012

The IDEA Slam, held January 14, 2012, brought out 100 participants together to asset map, generate project ideas, present ideas and vote on Quick-Start projects.  Both long term residents and new residents attended the meeting.  Twenty-seven participants presented ideas for Quick-Start projects, and everyone in attendance voted on projects to move forward to the grant application round.  Seven projects were advanced, including the following:

·        Downtown creative business center

·        Red Wing app/museum gallery brochures

·        Building brides/Chinese exchange

·        Freeport Project

·        Grain silo murals

·        Healthy foods/ Red Wing Farmer’s Market

·        Friends of the Bluff

Project teams have six weeks to develop a business plan that will include matching grant funding and in-kind donations.  The grant presentation round will be held at the Red Wing Library Foot Room on Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m.  This will be a public meeting, but the Red Wing CGI Core Leadership team will enter into closed session at the end to select the grant recipients who will share in all or part of $20,000. Exciting!
