The new “It” place

19 Oct 2015

Old West Main is getting a makeover. The City of Red Wing has a master plan to renew the area, making it the new “It” place. With river views, bars, and a micro-brewery, Old West Main has definite potential. In order to renew Old West Main, the city of Red Wing plans to work with the HRA and Port Authority to redevelop vacant and underused properties, establish a districtwide signage improvement, provide off-street parking where it is needed, support high quality housing development, consider street, sidewalk, and streetscape improvements, improve bicycle and pedestrian connections, consider policy and zoning changes, and market the area for new business developments.

Currently, Old West Main houses the 2013 Red Wing Chamber of Commerce Restaurant of the Year: Kelly’s Tap House, which offers 41 beers on tap. The restaurant is recently renovated and “features the widest selection of taps in town, an award-winning menu, and spectacular views of the Mississippi River.” In addition, they host entertainment every Friday and Saturday night from 9pm to 2am.

In addition to revitalizing the area, the Red Wing Brewery is also located on Old West Main. The brewery is the first in Red Wing to open its doors since 1951, offering authentic Red Wing craft beer and handmade pizzas.
