The Sheldon Theatre

23 Nov 2015

After originally being built in 1904 with an $83,000 bequest from successful businessman and Red Wing City Council member, Theodore B. Sheldon, the Sheldon was renovated and re-opened its doors to the public in 1986. After being totally restored, the Sheldon Theatre is now a “showcase for the best local, regional, and national arts and entertainment.”

The Sheldon Theatre provides employment and volunteer opportunities, and also hosts school shows for youth. The Sheldon usually hosts three to four shows geared toward youth education every year at a reduced ticket price. Performances range in subject from history, culture, bullying, and children’s books, and are “professional acts that tour all over the world,” including Curious George, The Gruffalo, and Walk On: The Rosa Parks Story.
