Red Wing Shoe Museum

14 Dec 2015

In the 19th century, a Red Wing, MN shoe merchant, Charles Beckman, “saw a local necessity for shoes specifically designed for the demanding work of industries such as mining, logging, and farming.” After 100 years, “Red Wing purpose-built footwear has been at the spearhead of innovation in the standard of excellence for work boots.”

Located in Red Wing, Minnesota, the Red Wing Shoe museum is home to the world’s largest boot. The boot is a size 638 ½ and stands over 20 feet tall. The museum also offers hands-on exhibits, a virtual tour through the factory, and much more. Visitors can also check out the Norman Rockwell original art gallery featuring footwear ads from the 1960s.

The Big Boot was built in 2005, in celebration of their centennial anniversary. Modeled after the classic style number 877, the world’s largest boot was built with using the same design and materials to build the regular Red Wing Shoe classic. The enormous boot resides in the Red Wing Flagship Shoe Store in downtown Red Wing, MN.
