Cold hardy grapes make warming wine
12 Jun 2017
Grapes grow easily in sun-drenched Italy. How can they possibly handle the frigid winters in Minnesota? Local wine growers have discovered grapes developed specifically to withstand the weather extremes in this part of the country.
Falconer Vineyards, named after owner John Falconer, has 6.5 acres of vineyards, using this type of grape. The result is full line of red, light red, rosé, white, port and dessert wines. They range from dry to semi-sweet, medium sweet and sweet.
Visitors can enjoy a glass along with a wood-fire pizza from May to October on the Vineyard Bistro deck. Entertainment happens all season long, including concerts and festivals.
