Consumers of leadership are changing their preferences, potentially more than they have in the last 60 years. In less than a week, we will conclude one of the most extensive leadership stocktaking exercises in modern U.S. history. This presidential election cycle is happening in the middle of momentous and rare levels of disruption and change in the lives of many Americans. The global pandemic, unprecedented levels of social activism, skyrocketed unemployment, and elevated levels of stress and depression are combining to place unique emphasis on this election – above and beyond the candidates who are on the ballot. This election has also presented voters with the starkest differences in leadership style, personality, archetypes of manhood, and worldview in the last six decades. Next week, the polls will close on what has become one of the most compelling litmus tests for the leadership appetite of Americans – and what leadership style we see as capable of taking us into the future.
