Red Wing hopes position leads to new direction for city
23 January 2017
The city of Red Wing has a new job available, and the sooner it is filled the better.
Red Wing is restructuring its development model a little, looking to hire a new community development director who will oversee both the Red Wing Port Authority and Planning Department.
The change comes as current Planning Director Brian Peterson is set to retire, but it also will have an impact on the Port Authority, said City Council Member Peggy Rehder.
The new position will remove some of the administrative responsibilities from the port authority, allowing the economic development organization to keep more of its levy money for projects and programs by freeing up the department's administrative costs, Rehder said. It will also put the port authority — the economic development arm of the city — and the planning department, with its zoning and licensing functions, under one roof.
