Governor Appoints Members to Broadband Task Force
10 August 2015
Gov. Mark Dayton has appointed seven new members and reappointed eight current members to the Governor’s Task Force on Broadband, whose mission includes promoting the expansion of broadband in Greater Minnesota.
The task force, which was created by executive order in 2011, is charged with developing, implementing and promoting state policy that will result in Minnesota being a leader in broadband availability, adoption and use, including universal access to high-speed Internet throughout the state. While 88.5 percent of Minnesota households now have access to wireless or wireline broadband – up from 82.7 percent one year earlier – that is still short of Minnesota’s statutory goal of 100 percent access to the technology.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) provides administrative support to the task force through its Office of Broadband Development.
