Red Wing's newly hatched peregrine falcons banded
June 15, 2024
Three young peregrine falcons living in a nest atop Red Wing Grain were banded June 10 by the Raptor Resource Project to be monitored during their lifetimes.
While putting the bands on the peregrine falcons, the Raptor Resource Project gathered data on their age, gender and parents’ band numbers and checked their health, volunteer Amy Ries said. The band numbers for the young peregrine falcon, estimated to be 21 days old, were submitted to the state and federal databases so they can be tracked in the future.
Peregrine falcon chicks, called eyasses, usually spend about 40 days in the nest, Ries said.
