‘An evening with Dakota speakers’ is May 21

Three Dakota elders will share their wisdom and life experiences during “An Evening with Dakota Speakers” May 21, 2026, at the Prairie Island Community Center, 1900 Buffalo Slough Trail.
The free event will start at 5:30 p.m. and feature Sandra McKay and Marilyn Hall of the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation and Rev. Dr. Clifford Canku of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate. They are among the region’s only first language speakers, meaning they learned Dakota from early childhood, thus shaping their identity and communication.
The evening will begin with a meal. People are asked to RSVP here.
