Maréchal Foch on the Mississippi?
17 Jul 2017
Every heard of the Maréchal Foch grape? What’s it doing on the Mississippi? Surely it should be home on the Seine. Fact is, it’s growing extremely well in Minnesota, just showing that serious wine growers can grow their grapes anywhere.
Flower Vineyards, in the Flower Valley close to Red Wing, grows most of its own grapes. They have planted varieties like Frontenac, developed by the University of Minnesota to endure the area’s harsh winters, the Frontenac Gris, La Crescent, Marquette and Prairie Star. The vineyard also grows the Blue Bell grape, made specifically for grape jelly.
Flower Vineyard offers wine tasting and events throughout the year, like the holiday wine festival.
